Temporary Road Detour Alert: Changes Coming to Abitibi Rd.

Information regarding a temporary detour affecting Abitibi Road.

Abitibi Road connects The Crossings neighbourhood with the Garry Station neighbourhood and provides the primary route for West Lethbridge’s newest elementary school, which is scheduled to be open for the 2025-26 school year. The portions of Abitibi Road that have been constructed will be open later this summer.

Abitibi Road cannot be fully constructed until future phases of development in Crossings require the stormwater and wastewater connections to be made along an approximate 250-metre portion of the roadway as shown on the map. In the meantime, a detour, including a temporary laneway, will guide you behind the lots along the north side of Halifax Rd. W, which will connect directly to the completed portions of Abitibi Road.  

This adjustment aims to ensure efficient traffic flow while our team works diligently to create a more permanent road connection between Garry Station and Crossings. We kindly request your patience and cooperation while the detour is in place, as fully building and connecting Abitibi Rd. will take some time.
